Today Africa participated in a Match Show organized by the Finnish Newfoundlander Association. It was held rather close to us in Gardenia, which is known for its gardens and exotic plants. A very beautiful setting for a dog show!
Tänään osallistuttiin African kanssa Mätsäreihin, jotka olivat Suomen Newfoundlander-ryhmän järjestämät. Match Show pidettiin Viikin Gardeniassa, joka on mukavan lähellä meitä ja kaunis paikka!
Afri was, like last time, the only Hovawart in the entire show and enjoyed her time being surrounded by other dogs and nice people. Each participating contestant got a sample bag from Royal Canin and this bag will be used as her training treats.:) The "show ground" was sand, which affected Afri's running also probably partly due to it affecting mine. She behaved perfectly despite me being ultranervous. I'm not even sure why I was so nervous haha. I was really afraid my bad nerves would be contagious, but no; Africa was kind of reassuring me that everything was good. Like said she performed well, but today it really sort of hit me how I need to learn/work on a few things for the next show.
Afri oli jälleen näyttelyn ainoa Hovawart, mutta neitiä se ei paljon hetkauttanut. Afrin mielestä oli mukavaa olla koirien ja ystävällisten ihmisten ympäröimänä. Jokainen osallistuja sai lahjaksi Royal Caninin näytepussin ja pussille tuleekin meille käyttöä namppapussina. :) Näyttelyn pohja oli harmiksemme melko isosoraista hiekkaa, joks vaikutti Afrin juoksemiseen ja uskon, että myös omaani. Neiti käyttäytyi täydellisesti, ainoastaan allekirjoittanut oli jostain syystä todella hermostunut. En edes tiedä miksi olin niin hermona haha! Pelkäsin, että hermostuneisuuteni tarttuisi Afriin, mutta ei onneksi. Afri tuntui olevan se, joka yritti rauhoitella minua, että asiat olivat okei. Tämän päiväinen sai minut nyt ihan kunnolla tajuamaan, että minun pitää tosiaan harjoitella muutamia asioita seuraavaa näyttelyä varten.

| "Why are you so nervous mommy?" |
First of all, I need to get a grip on my nerves plus stop giving her so many treats to help calm MY nerves (slightly ridiculous isn't it? Shouldn't this be the other way around haha :D). I also feel that I often leave her too sort of "alone" in the ring. By this I mean, my own nerves are so bad that she has to sort of figure out herself what she's supposed to do next. Or then when I tell her, I do it in this sort of hasty way. Right now I realize I'm sort of holding her back, by not putting enough trust into her to perform well and am supportive in the wrong way. At the same time I don't give her enough of the kind of support she needs, i.e. giving her confidence in the ring. When we train, it isn't a problem. But when there is some kind of thing where we must perform, I noticed my nerves just get the best of me and that ofcourse confuses the dog.
Minun on pakko saada pidettyä omat hermot aisoissa ja lopettaa myös liika namien syöttö rauhoittaakseni OMIA hermoja (käsittämätöntä eikö? Tietääkseni tämän pitäisi olla toisin päin haha :D). Huomaan myös, että kehässä Afri jää tavallaan "yksin". Tällä tarkoitan sitä, että omat hermot ovat niin ylikireät, että unohdan antaa raukalle ohjeita ja se joutuu itse keksimään mitä oikein haluan siltä. Huomaan, että tavallaan pidättelen Afria: en luota siihen, että se esiintyy hyvin ja annan sille väärällä tavalla tukea. Samaan aikaan en anna Afrille tarpeeksi sen tarvitsemaa tukea, mikä tässä tapauksessa on itseluottamus kehässä. Harjoittelussa tällaisia ongelmia ei ole. Heti kun on jonkinlainen "esiintyminen" kyseessä hyydyn täysin, ja tämä tietenkin hämmentää koiraa suuresti.

"Chill, I'm here, okay?"
The only cure for this stupidity on my behalf, is to just train more, do breathing exercises (ommmm) and keep on going to those shows etc.! I know Afri enjoys them and so do I :).
Ei tällaiseen hermoiluun auta muu kuin jatkaa näyttelyissä ravaamista, harjoitella ahkerasti ja tehdö hengitysharjoituksia (ommmm). Kuitenkin loppujenlopuksi Afri tykkää niistä ja niin tykkään minäkin :).

Oh and exciting news! Last week came my Amazon delivery with the camera parts! This means that my big Olympus is in working condition again and I can't wait to start taking photos with it again. These pictures were taken with my digi, because I was at the show alone and didn't have time to pack the big one.
Ai niin ja kivoja uutisia! Viime viikolla tuli Amazonin tilaukseni kameran osien kanssa! Tosi kiva juttu, koska nyt järkkäri on jälleen toimintakykyinen enä malta odottaa, että pääsen sillä jälleen napsimaan kuvia. Nämä kuvat otin pokkarillani, koska en kerennyt ottaa isoa mukaan.
