Autumn in Heidelberg

We have been now in Heidelberg for little over a week and now it seems autumn has arrived here too! The leaves are slowly turning yellow, red and brown and chestnuts fill the forest pathways. Autumn is my favorite time of the year as it is so beautiful and cool.

Heidelbergissä oloa takana vähän yli viikko ja nyt rupeaa näyttämään siltä, että syksy on saapunut myös tänne! Lehdet ovat hiljalleen ruvenneet vaihtamaan värejään punaiseksi, keltaiseksi ja ruskeaksi ja metsän polut täyttyvät kastanjoista. Syksy on ehdottomasti lempivuodenaikani kauneuden ja sopivan lämmön vuoksi.

On Mondays I don't have anything in the morning, so me and Afri decided to go to the woods in the late morning to enjoy the great sunny weather and beautiful nature. Usually at around 10.30 on weekdays there are no people in the nearby forest. Today however, it seems many had decided to go and pick chestnuts and collect water from the well at the same time as us.

Maanantaisin minulla ei ole tunteja tai töitä aamupäivisin, joten mentiin Afrin kanssa nautiskelemaan ihanan aurinkoisesta säästä ja kauniista luonnosta. Yleensä aamupäivinä 10.30 aikaan läheisessä metsässä ei ole oikeastaan yhtään ihmisiä liikkeellä. Jostain syystä tänään muutkin olivat päättäneet lähteä lenkkeilemään ja poimimaan kastanjoita samaan aikaan kun me oltiin liikenteessä.

Afri is clearly feeling much better compared to last week. Last Monday we did the forest walk in the morning before going to the vet and she was dead tired afterwards. It was like having a strange dog on the leash; she was walking very slow with her head down and eyes half closed. Today, there was no sign of such, Afri was her usual self sniffing and exploring! :)  

Africa voi selvästi paljon paremmin viime viikkoon verrattuna. Viime Maanantaina kävimme aamulla saman metsälenkin ennen eläinlääkärille menoa. Lenkin jälkeen Afri oli aivan loppu, oli kuin narun päässä olisi ollut ihan vieras koira, joka liikkui niin väsyneenä ja apaattisena. Tänään tuo väsyneisyys ei ollut kuin muisto vain, kun neiti posotti iloisesti eteenpäin niinkuin  yleensä. :)

Forest Wandering

These pictures were actually taken a few weeks ago but I never got around to posting them. We were at the stable visiting Skessa and Afri got to do a bit of running around in the forest.

Nämä kuvat otettiin jo itseasiassa muutama viikko sitten, mutta en sitten päässyt niitä postailemaan kun blogi vaihtoi patformia ja vähän niinkuin unohdin niiden olemassaolon. Oltiin talleilemassa ja samalla Afri pääsi vähän metsään riehumaan kaverinsa kanssa.

Man have I missed the Finnish woods! In Heidelberg the forest is also very nice and all, but I can never compare other forests to that of Finland. There's just this peace and transquility that is incomparable.

Tajusin  metsässä olessani, miten olenkaan kaivannut ehtoja suomalaisia metsiä! Heidelbergin metsät ovat myös ihan kivoja, mutta jotenkin niitä tai muita metsiä ei vaan pysty vertaamaan Suomeen. Ehkä se johtuu niiden rauhallisuudesta? Jotain erilaista siellä kuitenkin on.

Sunday Show - no go

The title pretty much sums it up... Last Wednesday Afri was supposed to take part in a Match Show (for those who don't know, it is a unofficial dog show. Something for fun and especially good for practice! Also mixed breeds are allowed to take part in their own classes) with my sister, but unfortunately she wasn't able to make it. 

So then I had checked that this Sunday there would be another one in our neighbouring city Vantaa, which was gonna be organized by Kulkurit Ry - a rescue dog association. I am always happy to participate in events, etc where the money goes towards a good cause. Sadly the weather decided not to cooperate; it's been raining almost the entire morning and they've also promised stormy weather in Vantaa. So in our case, we are not taking part this time. I feel a bit bummed, but shows are being organized all the time, so we will have our chance soon enough again.:)

Postauksen titteli taitaakin jo aikalailla sanoa kaiken, eli meidän osaltamme suunnittelemani Mätsäri jää nyt väliin... Kulkurit Ry järjestää tänään näyttelyn rescuekoirien hyväksi. Harmittaa kovasti, sillä minusta on aina mukava osallistua tapahtumiin, joissa ansiot menevät hyväntekeväisyyteen. 

Sää oli siis tällä kertaa meitä vastaan. Täällä satoi aamulla koko päivän ja Vantaan Hakunilaan oli taasen luvattu myös sadetta ja ukkosta; ei niin kiva. Itse en ole mikään sateen ystävä eikä ole oikein Afrikaan (ellei ojien ryömimistä lasketa, sitä on kaikista kivoin harrastaa juuri koiranilmalla) plus vielä märkä nurmikenttä ei ole ehkä se kaikista ideaalisin pohja (nimim. kaatumisen ekspertti jo muutenkin). Tosi harmi, mutta onneksi Pääkaupunkiseudulla näyttelyitä järjestetään muutenkin suht usein, eli varmaan päästään piakkoin taas kokeilemaan. :)

Clearly, summer has now come to an end with all the rain and wind making its way here. It's really too bad, because it would have been really nice to bring Afri to the sea for a bit of a swim (or well, in her case splashing!). I know that she would splash in any sort of weather, but it wouldn't be very nice now if she got ill, now would it? 

Kesä on nyt selvästi tullut päähänsä ja aina ah-niin-ihana sade ja tuuli ovat ottaneet vallan. Siinä mielessä harmillista, sillä olisin kovasti vielä halunnut viedä Afrin vähän mereen uimaan (Afrin tapauksessa kahlaamaan ja riehumaan heh). Afrihan omasta mielestään veteen voi mennä vuoden ympäri ja vaikka sää olisi mikä.
